My works are about my experience as a female artist who is from an Asian society. I am working
with variety media such as installation, performance, photography, video and drawing.
Through my art practice, I learned that my body is a limited vessel holding my inner space. I’ve
been researching my true identity that is untouched by society and culture. My work process
begins with concealing my limited element (my body) with a black light or my own hair. Once
the light darkens my identity, I reveal the surface of my body. Through the revealing process in
video works, the imagery occurring on my body does not look or resemble a body. It looks more
like a galaxy, a satellite landscape of the earth. My message is, “You can see me but you can’t
know me”
I create an infinite realm through my limited space. I believe beauty comes from a hidden place.
The moment that I find beauty under the veil, I appreciate the beauty more. For me, beauty is a
hidden thing. As an artist, I find this beauty and present it to spectators.
